Mastertube set

Injectable PVC tube for sealing construction joints

Drykos® Mastertube is a preformed injectable system for internal waterproofing of construction joints in concrete structures. The system consists of a PVC tube specifically designed to be installed along the joint line before the subsequent pour, allowing, if necessary, the subsequent injection of suitable resins for sealing discontinuities and preferential infiltration paths.
Once embedded in the concrete, Drykos® Mastertube provides a permanent provision for waterproofing intervention by injection, particularly useful in underground structures, hydraulic works, and all structures where the ability to subsequently intervene on the construction joint seal is required.
The installation set is supplied ready for installation and includes 10 m of injection tube, fixing accessories, installation clips, and connectors, to ensure a complete and organized application system on site.

Substrate preparation

The concrete surface on which Drykos® Mastertube is installed must be carefully prepared before tube installation. The substrate must be clean, compact, and free of cavities, loose parts, cement laitance, dust, release oils, or other contaminants that could compromise the correct adhesion and stability of the system during pouring. The surface must also be free of ice and standing water. Any significant irregularities, honeycombing, or substrate discontinuities must be previously regularized with suitable materials from the Drykos® Repair line, to ensure continuity of installation and correct contact of the tube with the construction joint.

Product preparation

Drykos® Mastertube is supplied as a ready-to-assemble system. Before installation, it is necessary to verify the integrity of the tube, accessories, and injection terminals.
Tube sections must be sized according to the geometry of the construction joint. The length of each individual section must not exceed 15 m, as shorter sections facilitate subsequent injection operations and allow better system control. The tube must be cut with a suitable tool. Before cutting, the affected area must be wrapped with 2–3 turns of filament-reinforced tape, to prevent tearing or longitudinal opening of the tube during cutting. Fixing packers or, alternatively, the injection terminals provided by the system must be connected to the ends of the sections. Terminals must be positioned in easily accessible points even after completion of the work, taking into account subsequent layers, flooring, installations, and finishes.

Application

Drykos® Mastertube must be positioned along the construction joint continuously and regularly, before execution of the subsequent pour. Under standard conditions, the tube is installed at the center of the construction joint. In the case of structural elements with thickness greater than 60 cm, the tube must be positioned approximately 15 cm from the side opposite to that exposed to water, to optimize the effectiveness of the subsequent injection intervention. A minimum distance of 8 cm from the external edges of the structure must also always be maintained.
The tube must be fixed securely, avoiding any displacement before and during pouring phases. Fixing can be performed using metal clips or dedicated plastic clips, positioned at a maximum spacing of 15 cm along the tube development. In the presence of very irregular surfaces or at changes of direction, the spacing of fixings must be reduced.
Any subsequent sections must be overlapped for at least 10 cm, to ensure continuity of the injection system along the joint. In the presence of parallel tubes, the minimum distance between sections must be at least 5 cm, to prevent the adjacent section from being accidentally filled during injection of one section. If this distance cannot be maintained, the affected area must be completely wrapped with filament-reinforced tape to prevent unwanted communication between sections.
Changes of direction must be made with an adequate radius of curvature, in any case not less than 5 cm, to avoid crushing, constriction, or damage to the tube that could hinder subsequent injection. In transitions between horizontal and vertical installation, the tube must be guided to the corner of the joint and rise through a loop, maintaining the minimum radius and concrete cover.
During concrete pouring, thorough compaction around the tube must be ensured, avoiding the formation of voids, honeycombing, or discontinuities that could compromise the effectiveness of the system. Injection can only be performed after concrete maturation, indicatively not before 28 days from pouring.

Other indications
  • Do not exceed the recommended maximum length of 15 m per individual section
  • Always verify that injection terminals remain accessible after pouring and after completion of finishes
  • Do not install the tube on dirty, frozen, loose surfaces, or with standing water
  • Avoid crushing, constriction, or radii of curvature less than 5 cm
  • Maintain the minimum distance of 8 cm from the edges of the structure
  • Maintain a minimum distance of 5 cm between parallel tubes
  • Fix the tube securely before pouring, with clips at a maximum spacing of 15 cm
  • During pouring, ensure adequate compaction of concrete around the tube
  • Do not perform injection before proper concrete maturation
