Spacer Tube

Tubular formwork system ideal for exposed concrete and hydraulic structures

The Drykos® Spacer Tube for formwork is a technical component designed to ensure proper integration within concrete structures. The product has been developed with construction features designed to integrate continuously into the pour, preventing structural discontinuities. Proper integration of the spacer tube prevents the creation of weak points or potential permeability paths, contributing to the durability and overall quality of the structure.
The product geometry, characterized by appropriate reinforcements, knurling, and protrusions, is designed to promote adhesion to the pour and
ensure material continuity between spacer and concrete.
The spacer configuration has been designed to ensure mechanical stability both during compression, throughout
formwork assembly and pouring operations, and during tension, when stripping. The longitudinal protrusions also allow
proper anchoring of reinforcement bars, ensuring compliance with the concrete cover specified in the design.
The closure element (cap) has been specifically designed to integrate continuously with the spacer ends,
ensuring complete system closure. Suitable for use in structures subject to water presence
and hydrostatic pressure up to 10 bar, equivalent to a 10 m water column.

Plastic tube.

Storage

The product has no storage limitations if properly stored.

Storage conditions

Store properly in the original, sealed, intact packaging, protected from moisture, frost, and direct sunlight exposure, preferably at temperatures between +5°C and +35°C.

Theoretical consumption

The quantity of concrete spacers to use depends on the specified concrete cover thickness and the type of reinforcement adopted. In most common applications, approximately 4 pieces per square meter are typically required, a value that allows uniform distribution and ensures adequate stability during pouring.

Yield

~ 4 pieces per m2

Application temperatures (substrate and environment)

Minimum +0°C | Maximum +40°C

Product preparation

The Drykos® Spacer Tube plastic formwork spacers are single-piece molded elements supplied in various lengths, selected according to the wall thickness to be constructed. Before installation, verify that the tube length corresponds exactly to the specified distance between the internal surfaces of the formwork, in accordance with the structural design.

Application

During formwork assembly, the Drykos® Spacer Tube is inserted at the holes provided in the panels, allowing the tie rod or threaded bar to pass through its interior. The tube must be properly aligned and positioned against the formwork surfaces to ensure constant wall thickness and prevent deformation during tightening operations.
Once tie rod positioning and proper formwork tightening are completed, concrete pouring proceeds. The spacer tubes ensure formwork stability during the filling and vibration phase, maintaining constant distance between panels and protecting the tie rod from direct contact with the concrete mix.
After concrete curing and stripping, the tie rods are removed according to the procedures specified by the adopted formwork system, leaving the tube embedded in the pour and completing hole closure with the appropriate caps.

Cleaning of tools

Clean tools with water immediately after use.

Other indications
  • Verify before installation that the spacer tube length complies with the wall thickness specified in the structural design
  • Use only intact tubes, free from deformations, cracks, or damage due to impacts or crushing
  • Do not use the product for functions other than those intended (maintaining formwork distance and protecting the tie rod)
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to UV rays and intense heat sources before use, to prevent alterations of the plastic material’s mechanical properties
  • In particularly low temperatures, verify that the material does not exhibit stiffening that could compromise impact resistance during assembly
  • Ensure that tie rod tightening is performed uniformly to avoid abnormal stresses on the spacer tubes
  • Do not exceed the pouring pressures specified by the design and the adopted formwork system
  • The product must be used in compliance with current regulations and the Construction Manager’s instructions
