Pipe-seal

Hydro-expansive elastic gasket for sealing through-pipes in concrete structures

Drykos® Pipe-seal is a “belt-type” hydro-expansive elastic gasket, made of special water-reactive rubber, designed for the waterproof sealing of pipes passing through masonry, walls, and concrete structures. Upon contact with water, the hydro-expansive material progressively increases its volume, developing a confinement pressure against the surrounding concrete and the external surface of the pipe. In this way, it helps to seal discontinuities that may form in the pour at the through-pipes, preventing the formation of preferential infiltration paths along the pipe-concrete interface.
Thanks to its preformed geometry and interlocking mechanical closure system, Drykos® Pipe-seal can be installed quickly directly onto the pipe before the pour, without additional processing and without the need for complex adhesives or fixings.
The product is available in different sizes, suitable for pipes with approximate diameters of 70-90 mm, 110-125 mm, and 160-200 mm.

Substrate preparation

Before installing Drykos® Pipe-seal, it is necessary to verify that the through-pipe is correctly sized relative to the selected gasket size.
The external surface of the pipe must be clean, stable, and free of dust, oils, greases, release agents, processing residues, or other substances that could compromise the correct contact of the gasket with the pipe. The gasket must be installed on an intact, non-deformed pipe free of marked irregularities in the positioning area. Any surface contamination must be removed before installation.
In the case of particularly smooth pipes or in the presence of critical site conditions, verify the stability of the gasket beforehand during the pouring phases, adopting compatible auxiliary fixing systems if necessary, without compromising the expansion capacity of the product.

Product preparation

Drykos® Pipe-seal is supplied ready to use and does not require preliminary preparation. Before installation, check the integrity of the gasket, the continuity of the hydro-expansive element, and the correct functioning of the interlocking closure system. The product size must be chosen based on the external diameter of the pipe to be sealed. Do not use gaskets that are not compatible with the pipe diameter, as incorrect sizing can compromise stability during the pour and the final seal of the system.

Application

Drykos® Pipe-seal must be applied manually directly onto the through-pipe before the concrete pour. The gasket must be wrapped around the pipe and closed using the integrated interlocking system, ensuring it is stable, adherent, and correctly positioned along the entire circumference of the pipe.
Positioning must be carried out at the central area of the concrete section crossed by the pipe, so that the gasket is completely embedded in the pour and can develop its hydro-expansive action within the structure.
During the concrete pour, it is essential to avoid displacement, rotation, or misalignment of the gasket. The concrete must be correctly compacted around the pipe and the gasket to avoid the formation of voids, honeycombs, or discontinuities that could compromise the hydraulic seal of the system. After the concrete has hardened, in the presence of water or humidity, Drykos® Pipe-seal activates its expansion process, increasing in volume and contributing to the sealing of micro-discontinuities present along the pipe-concrete interface.

Other indications
  • Always verify the correct match between the pipe diameter and the selected gasket size.
  • Do not install the product on dirty, contaminated, deformed, or irregularly surfaced pipes in the installation area.
  • Avoid prolonged contact with water before the pour, as premature activation of the hydro-expansive process can compromise the correct installation and the final seal of the system.
  • The gasket must be completely embedded in the concrete and positioned stably before the pour. During the pour, ensure correct compaction of the concrete around the pipe, avoiding voids and honeycombs.
  • Do not use as an exposed or unconfined external sealing element: the product must work by expansion under confinement within the concrete pour.
  • In the presence of brackish water, chemically aggressive water, or special operating conditions, verify the suitability of the system beforehand.
