Drylastic

High-elasticity, two-component cementitious waterproofing membrane for the protection and waterproofing of concrete and masonry surfaces

Drykos® Drylastic is a high-performance, two-component elastic membrane based on cementitious binders and modified polymers, designed for the waterproofing and protection of concrete and masonry structures. Thanks to its high flexibility, the product is capable of effective crack-bridging, ensuring waterproof continuity even in the presence of substrate micro-movements.
Drykos® Drylastic adheres effectively to various types of substrates and is suitable for both vertical and horizontal applications. It maintains its elastic characteristics over time even under variable environmental conditions, ensuring long-lasting protection against the aggressive action of de-icing salts, sulfates, and chlorides.
The product is indicated as a waterproofing layer under final coatings such as ceramic tiles, natural stone, and marble, as well as under polyurethane or silicone membranes, contributing to the durability and safety of the waterproofing system.

Substrate preparation

Surfaces to be coated must be stable, solid, and clean, as well as free from dust, dirt, grease, oils, release agents, residues of previous coatings, or surface treatments that could compromise the product’s adhesion. Any loose, crumbly, or poorly adhering parts must be completely removed prior to application. Damaged, degraded, or delaminated concrete must be previously restored using Drykos® repair mortars. Construction joints, substrate discontinuities, utility crossings, pipes, light points, and all penetrating elements must be appropriately sealed with suitable materials from the Drykos® line. Before applying the product, the substrate must be free of standing water and surface condensation.
At structural joints, connections between horizontal and vertical surfaces, corners, material changes, and critical points subject to movement or cracking, the insertion of Drykos® Flexstrip 120 elastic tape is recommended, embedded in the fresh layer of product, to ensure the continuity of the waterproofing system and the ability to absorb deformations.
Before applying the product, the substrate must be free of standing water and surface condensation, while maintaining an adequate degree of humidity compatible with the application system.

Product preparation

Pour component B (liquid) into the mixing container and gradually add component A (powder), mixing with a low-speed mechanical stirrer. Mix the product thoroughly for a few minutes until a homogeneous, lump-free paste is obtained, taking care to remove any material that is not perfectly dispersed from the walls and bottom of the container. Continue mixing until the paste is completely homogeneous. Allow to rest for approximately 3 minutes, then briefly remix before application. Use only low-speed mechanical stirrers to limit air entrapment; avoid manual mixing. Do not add water or other additives. Each pack must be mixed in its entirety to avoid uneven distribution of aggregates and active components.

Application

Drykos® Drylastic is applied by roller, brush, stainless steel trowel, or suitable spray equipment onto previously prepared substrates. The product must be applied in at least two coats, for an indicative total thickness of approximately 2 mm; considering its rheology, the thickness per single coat must not exceed 1 mm to ensure correct drying and optimal development of waterproofing performance. The first coat must be spread uniformly, ensuring complete coverage of the substrate and the closing of surface porosities.
While the first layer is still fresh, proceed with the insertion of Drykos® Flexstrip 120 elastic tape at joints, connections between horizontal and vertical surfaces, corners, changes in plane, as well as near utility crossings and all singular points; the tape must be carefully embedded into the fresh layer by applying light pressure to ensure perfect adhesion and eliminate any air bubbles, and subsequently completely covered with additional product to ensure the continuity of the waterproofing system.
The second coat must be applied when the first is still slightly damp to the touch, approximately after 4–6 hours depending on environmental conditions, spreading the product in a crosswise direction relative to the previous one and working carefully so as not to damage the underlying layer.
In particularly hot, dry, or windy climatic conditions, it is recommended to protect the treated surfaces by covering them with polyethylene sheets or equivalent systems to limit rapid water evaporation and promote the correct hardening process of the product.

Cleaning of tools

Clean tools and equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.

Other indications
  • Do not apply the product if rain is imminent. Protect treated surfaces from water and precipitation for at least 24-48 hours after application.
  • The product is not suitable for direct contact with chlorinated water; in such applications, a suitable final coating must be provided.
  • Avoid application in the presence of direct sunlight and/or strong wind; alternatively, adequately protect the fresh material.
  • In environments characterized by high relative humidity and poor ventilation, the hardening process may be slowed down. Adequate ventilation of the rooms is recommended.
  • In the presence of high ambient temperatures, it is advisable to lightly pre-moisten the substrate.
  • Verify the correct slope of surfaces (terraces, roofs) to avoid permanent standing water.
