Washerseal
Hydro-expansive rubber ring gasket for tubular blade formwork spacers

Drykos® Washerseal is a hydro-expansive ring gasket made of special hydro-reactive rubber that, upon contact with water, reacts by significantly increasing its initial volume. The product is designed for use in combination with tubular spacers for metal formwork, in order to guarantee the waterproof sealing of the spacer’s crossing points in the concrete pour. The presence of tubular spacers can, in fact, generate through-discontinuities within the masonry, which represent a potential preferential path for water infiltration. The hydro-expansive action of Drykos® Washerseal allows these discontinuities to be compensated for, ensuring a permanent airtight seal.
In the standard version, Drykos® Washerseal is sized for use with tubular spacers having an internal diameter of 21.5 mm, without external ribs, commonly used in metal formwork in construction, generally characterized by an external diameter of approximately 24 mm. Thanks to the high elasticity of the material, the gasket is also able to adapt to spacers with a larger external diameter, up to approximately 30 mm. Do not use Drykos® Washerseal in combination with spacers with an external diameter of less than 23.5 mm, as it would not guarantee the correct functionality of the sealing system.

Application info
Substrate preparation
Before installation, verify that the tubular spacers are clean, intact, and comply with the specified dimensions.
Application
Insert Drykos® Washerseal onto the tubular spacer, ensuring that the gasket is correctly positioned at the midpoint of the pour thickness to guarantee uniform sealing on both sides of the wall. Proceed with the assembly of the metal formwork according to standard operating procedures, verifying that the gasket remains stable during reinforcement and pouring operations.
During the concrete pour, the gasket remains embedded in the conglomerate. In the presence of water or moisture, Drykos® Washerseal activates its hydro-expansive action, increasing in volume and hermetically sealing the spacer’s crossing point.
After stripping the formwork, the spacer is removed according to normal procedures; the gasket remains embedded in the concrete, ensuring a permanent waterproof seal.
Other indications
- Verify that the tubular spacers used comply with the specified dimensions and are free of deformations, ribs, or surface irregularities that could compromise the correct function of the gasket
- Do not use with spacers having an external diameter of less than 23.5 mm, as it would not guarantee an effective waterproof seal
- Ensure that the gasket is correctly positioned and centered relative to the pour thickness before final assembly of the formwork
- Avoid prolonged contact of the gasket with water or moisture before pouring, in order to prevent premature activation of the hydro-expansive action
- During the formwork, reinforcement, and pouring phases, verify that the gasket does not undergo abnormal displacement or crushing
- Do not use damaged, deformed gaskets or those contaminated by oils, greases, or other agents that may alter their hydro-expansive behavior
